Perhaps your daughter melts down when plans change without warning, or perhaps you are an adult in Oshkosh who has always felt a step out of sync with everyone else. Our Autism Evaluations in Oshkosh, WI meet children, teens, and adults exactly where they are and take the questions seriously. You will not need a referral to start.
We begin every case with a baseline of cognitive, adaptive, and executive function, and then the assessment bends toward whatever concern led you here rather than following a one size script. A single licensed psychologist stays with you throughout, drawing on gold standard tools such as the ADOS-2, and checks along the way for the things autism commonly hides beside, like ADHD and anxiety.
Often it is a rigid attachment to one outfit, a narrow set of accepted foods, flapping hands, or eye contact that flickers rather than holds. Speech may have come slowly, and even a minor change to the day can trigger an outsized reaction. The predictable is comforting, and toys tend to get sorted and lined up more than played with.
For teenagers it can read as burnout from socializing, real withdrawal, and feeling swamped by the sensory load of a busy school. Nonverbal cues slip past them, routines harden into rules, and staying on top of coursework is a constant fight, while a couple of intense interests mark them as different from their peers.
There is no age limit on recognizing autism. Adults often name years of masking, a deep fatigue after even enjoyable social time, and old quirks that click into place with hindsight. Sensory sensitivities and leaning hard on routine are frequent, and women and people assigned female at birth are among those most often overlooked or misdiagnosed for decades.
The process begins with roughly an hour of interview, with a parent or caregiver when the client is a child, or with the adult being evaluated. Your psychologist collects a complete history, from the earliest milestones through present day life at home, school, or work, and that background shapes which autism specific measures will tell us the most.
Next your psychologist chooses a battery fitted to the individual's age and how their traits present. Expect roughly 2 to 6 hours of in person testing spread over one to two days, plus questionnaires for parents or teachers so we can see behavior across settings. Screeners for ADHD and executive function come standard, because those overlaps are common.
Every piece, the scores, the in room observations, the questionnaire responses, is synthesized into a single detailed diagnostic report. Should any co occurring condition appear, whether anxiety, sensory processing differences, or something else, it is written up and addressed directly, so the report reflects the complete clinical picture and not a fragment of it.
About two to three weeks out you return to go over the results. Your psychologist walks you through the diagnosis in everyday language and offers individualized recommendations, from home and school strategies to therapy options and accommodation guidance, each one shaped around what this particular person actually needs next.
It is not. You are welcome to book with Core Spring Diagnostics without any referral at all. Scheduling is something you can do yourself, and we will loop in your pediatrician or another provider only when you ask us to.
It covers a baseline of cognitive, adaptive, and executive function, autism specific testing using gold standard tools like the ADOS-2, a clinical interview, caregiver questionnaires, and a screen for co occurring conditions, all owned by one psychologist through to the feedback session.
It can start as early as 18 to 24 months, but the best timing depends on what you are seeing. Because we assess children, teens, and adults, no one ages out of being able to get a clear answer here.
That varies from person to person. In most cases the interview comes first and testing follows across a session or two, timed to the individual and not to a stopwatch, so we never impose a rigid number of hours or a set count of appointments.
You leave with a report in plain language and a feedback session centered on individualized recommendations, which might cover therapy referrals, school accommodations, and practical approaches you can start using at home right away.
