Sometimes the real question is not what is wrong, but what is actually going on underneath. Maybe your child is a puzzle of obvious talent and stubborn frustration, or maybe you have always wanted an honest map of your own strengths. IQ & Cognitive Function Testing in Cottage Grove, WI is built to draw that map with care. No referral is needed to begin.
We open every evaluation by establishing how a mind actually works, its reasoning, its processing speed, what it can juggle at once, and how it organizes and plans, then focus on the specific concern that prompted the visit. The same licensed psychologist stays with you from first contact through feedback, and anything that commonly rides alongside, such as ADHD or a learning difference, is part of what we screen for.
In children, the picture can be a bright kid who is oddly out of step with themselves, quick and curious in one moment, stuck and frustrated the next. Early or uneven milestones, deep dives into a single interest, and boredom in class often sit beside a real gap between ability and finished work.
For teenagers, it frequently reads as talent the transcript undersells, grades that wander away from clear potential, and questions about acceleration or advanced classes. A good number simply want a clearer sense of their strengths before making the next big academic call.
Adults often want to finally understand their own profile, to make sense of a lifelong blend of natural strengths and quiet struggles. Some carry a giftedness question from years ago; others need documentation of how they think for a degree program or their work.
The process starts with about an hour of conversation. Your psychologist builds a thorough picture of the history, from early development to what matters now, and uses it to clarify the purpose of testing and decide which measures will speak most directly to the question.
Based on that discussion, your psychologist puts together a personalized set of intellectual and ability measures. In person testing usually runs 2 to 6 hours across one or two days, plus questionnaires you complete at home. Depending on the question, processing speed, memory, executive function, or adaptive skills may be assessed too.
Your psychologist merges the testing data, clinical impressions, and questionnaire results into one detailed report spanning intellectual ability, standout strengths, processing patterns, and any areas of concern. If something further comes to light, such as ADHD or a learning difference, it is captured so nothing slips through.
Some two to three weeks after testing, you come back for a feedback session. This is where you receive the findings in clear language along with recommendations tailored to you: educational planning, strategies that build on your strengths, accommodations if they apply, and defined next steps.
No. You never require a referral to be seen at Core Spring Diagnostics. Feel free to reach out on your own, for any reason at all.
No. A single number tells you very little on its own. The evaluation sets intellectual ability beside processing speed, working memory, executive function, and other patterns, then explains what the whole profile means in practical terms.
People come to identify giftedness, plan for school, understand uneven strengths, support an accommodation request, or simply get a clear picture of how a child or adult thinks and learns.
We do. Children, teens, and adults are all welcome, and many adults come specifically to put language to how their own mind works.
A report in plain, readable language and a feedback session centered on individualized recommendations, from educational guidance to practical strategies for everyday life.
