Maybe your emotions arrive at full volume, then vanish just as fast, leaving you drained and unsure why. Maybe long stretches of hardship taught your body to stay on high alert. Complex PTSD Evaluations in Mount Horeb, WI give those experiences a name and a framework, gently and at your speed. Reaching out takes no referral.
Every evaluation is grounded first in a baseline of cognitive and executive function, then broadened with trauma focused and emotional measures chosen around your concerns. The same licensed psychologist guides all of it, holds a pace that respects everything you have been through, and screens for the difficulties that so often ride along with complex trauma.
For children, attention goes to how continued stress or adversity is registering, in their moods, their sleep, or their sense of security, well before any label enters the conversation. What we are really after is what helps them settle and where they still feel unsafe.
Teens living with complex trauma may find their emotions hard to contain, view themselves through a harsh or shifting lens, and struggle to trust or stay connected. Their responses tend to make sense once their history is clear, and that understanding steers the entire evaluation.
In adults, it often shows up as a lingering sense of worthlessness, feelings that surge or flatten without warning, and difficulty trusting in relationships. A chronic feeling of being unsafe is common, and its reach usually extends across many areas of daily life.
Things begin with about an hour of relaxed conversation, where your psychologist gathers a detailed personal history in an environment meant to feel safe and unpressured. Since complex PTSD often takes root in experiences that continued over time, this conversation reaches across a broad timeline to see how they have shaped your emotional world, your relationships, and your view of yourself. You lead the pace.
Your psychologist then selects a personalized battery built to capture the many layers of complex trauma, generally 2 to 6 hours of in person evaluation over one to two days. Self report questionnaires go home with you, and someone close is welcome to complete a set of their own. If indicators of other conditions appear, such as anxiety, depression, dissociation, or ADHD, they are screened for too.
All of it, the testing results, the clinical observations, and the questionnaires, is drawn together into a single, in depth diagnostic report. Your psychologist considers how complex trauma has influenced your emotional regulation, identity, relationships, and cognitive functioning, and notes any co occurring conditions so nothing is left out.
Around two to three weeks afterward, you return for feedback. Your psychologist talks you through the diagnosis clearly and shares individualized recommendations, whether specialized trauma therapy, tools for steadying your emotions, or relationship support, all matched to the way you want to heal.

Complex PTSD tends to follow trauma that was drawn out or repeated and can shape self image, emotion regulation, and relationships more broadly, whereas PTSD usually points back to a single event. The evaluation makes clear which one matches your life.
It includes a trauma informed interview, a cognitive and executive function baseline, trauma focused and emotional measures, and screening for related concerns, all handled by one psychologist at a pace that respects you.
