Our evaluations are designed to identify underlying math related difficulties and understand how they impact academic performance and confidence. We take a detailed and individualized approach to ensure each person’s learning profile is clearly understood.
One licensed psychologist carries the whole process, from the first conversation through testing to the day you sit down with the results. Rather than stopping at one score, the evaluation looks at how your child reasons, holds information in mind, processes what comes at them, and manages tasks, then narrows in on the questions that brought you here. If something else appears along the way, such as a learning difference or anxiety, it is folded into the picture rather than set aside.
A Monona child might hit milestones startlingly early, then stall on things that look simpler, or pour intense focus into one narrow passion while classroom work bores them flat. You may notice questions far beyond their years sitting right beside a puzzling gap between what they clearly can do and what actually gets finished.
For teenagers, the tension often shows as underachievement that makes no sense on paper: obvious ability, grades that wander, and a growing question about whether to accelerate or take on advanced work. Many simply want a clearer read on their own strengths before committing to a major academic decision.
Adults frequently arrive wanting language for a lifelong pattern, the areas where things always came easily and the ones that quietly cost them. Some are chasing a giftedness question carried since childhood; others need documentation of their strengths and needs for a degree program or a job.
Your evaluation opens with about an hour of conversation. Your psychologist gathers a full background, from early development and school history to the questions on your mind now, and uses it to clarify the purpose of testing, whether that is a giftedness question, a baseline, or academic planning, and which measures will tell you the most.
From there, your psychologist assembles a battery built around your goals. In person testing typically runs 2 to 6 hours over one to two days, and questionnaires go home for added context. Depending on the question, measures of processing speed, memory, executive function, or adaptive skills may be added.
Every score, observation, and questionnaire is drawn together into a detailed report covering intellectual ability, thinking strengths, processing patterns, and any areas of concern. If something like ADHD or a learning difference shows up during testing, it is documented rather than left out.
Roughly two to three weeks later, you return for a feedback session. Your psychologist walks through the results in plain terms and hands you individualized recommendations: educational planning, strategies that lean on your child's strengths, accommodations where they apply, and clear next steps toward your goals.
