Maybe the weight has been sitting on you for months and you have stopped expecting it to lift. Maybe your child used to light up over small things and now shrugs at everything. Our Depression Evaluations in Brookfield, WI look past the surface mood to find what is actually driving it, and you never need a referral to begin.
Every evaluation opens with a baseline of cognitive and executive function, the foundation we build everything else on. From there the process is shaped around your specific concern, adding mood and emotional measures that fit your story. One licensed psychologist carries you through it all, and along the way we screen for the related conditions that so often travel with low mood.
Maybe your child is more irritable than sad, snapping at small frustrations. Play that once absorbed them holds nothing now, sleep and appetite have shifted, stomachaches and headaches keep surfacing, and school has quietly become a struggle.
Maybe your teen has gone flat or short tempered, pulling back from the friends and activities that used to matter. You might see exhaustion no amount of sleep fixes, a mood that reads as hopeless, and grades that have slipped without a clear reason.
Maybe your own mood has stayed low longer than you want to admit, and the things you enjoyed feel distant. You may be running on empty, sleeping too much or too little, struggling to focus, and moving through your days just going through the motions.
Your evaluation begins with an hour long conversation in which your psychologist gathers a full history, from early experiences through the way your mood, energy, and daily life look right now. This is where the work of distinguishing depression from look alike conditi
Your psychologist then chooses a set of mood and psychological measures built for your situation. Testing typically runs 2 to 6 hours across one to two days. You will take some self report questionnaires home, and someone close to you may complete one of their own. If signs of another condition surface, such as anxiety, ADHD, or bipolar disorder, we screen those areas too.
Every piece of data, observation, and questionnaire comes together in a detailed diagnostic report. Differential diagnosis sits at the center of it: your psychologist weighs whether what you are experiencing is best explained by depression, another condition, or a mix, and documents anything that co occurs.
Typically two to three weeks later you come back for a feedback session. Your psychologist walks you through the findings in plain language and hands you individualized recommendations: strategies for home and school or work, therapy resources, guidance on accommodations, and the specific next steps that fit this person.
