Maybe your toddler only eats a handful of foods and unravels when a plan shifts, or maybe you are the adult who finally wants a name for a lifetime of feeling a half step out of sync. Our autism evaluations in Elkhorn, WI look closely at all of that, for children, teens, and adults. No referral is needed to start.
We begin every case with a foundation of cognitive, adaptive, and executive function, then shape the rest of the assessment around what actually brought you in. One licensed psychologist carries your case the whole way, using gold standard tools such as the ADOS-2, and quietly checking for frequently overlooked companions like ADHD and anxiety.
You might notice the same shirt insisted on every morning, a very short list of accepted foods, or hands that flap when excitement runs high. Eye contact can come and go, speech can arrive late, and a small change to the routine can trigger a very big reaction.
In busy Elkhorn hallways a teen may look drained and withdrawn, thrown by noise and crowds, and unsure how to read a glance or a joke. Rigid routines steady them, deep and narrow interests absorb them, and everyday planning and follow through can feel unexpectedly hard.
Autism can be recognized at any age. Years of masking, real exhaustion after even enjoyable time with people, and childhood quirks that suddenly make sense can all point here. Women and people assigned female at birth are especially likely to have been missed or misdiagnosed, sometimes across decades.
We open with an hour long conversation with you, or with the parent or caregiver, to build a complete picture from early development through daily life at home, school, or work. This history is what tells your psychologist which autism specific measures will give the clearest read on what is really going on.
Your psychologist assembles a testing plan matched to your age and presentation, usually 2 to 6 hours of in person work spread across one to two days. Questionnaires go out to the people who see you in other settings, and because ADHD and executive function differences often ride along, screeners for those are built in.
Every score, observation, and questionnaire is drawn together into one detailed report. If anything co occurring surfaces along the way, such as anxiety or sensory processing differences, it is documented and folded into the findings so you leave with the whole picture, not a fragment of it.
Roughly two to three weeks later you come back for the feedback session. Your psychologist walks you through the results in plain language and hands you recommendations built for your life: supports for home and school, therapy leads, accommodation guidance, and the specific next steps that fit.
No. A referral is never required to be seen at Core Spring Diagnostics. You can book directly, and we will loop in your pediatrician or other providers only if you ask us to.
It starts from a baseline of cognitive, adaptive, and executive function, then adds autism specific testing with gold standard tools like the ADOS-2, a clinical interview, caregiver questionnaires, and a screen for conditions that often travel with autism. One psychologist owns the case through feedback.
Some children can be assessed as young as 18 to 24 months, though the right timing really depends on the concerns. We work with children, teens, and adults at every stage of life.
It varies by person. Expect a clinical interview followed by one or more testing sessions, paced to what you or your child needs. We do not lock anyone into a set number of sessions or hours.
A plain language report and a sit down feedback session with individualized recommendations, which can include therapy referrals, school accommodations, and practical strategies for home.
If any of this sounds like your child or like you, we would be glad to talk it through. Reach out to Core Spring Diagnostics to request a consultation for an autism evaluation near Elkhorn, and remember that no referral is needed to begin.
